DISCOVER THE “JEWELS” OF iSiMANGALISO…
The name “iSimangaliso” means miracle and wonder, which aptly describes this unique place. iSimangaliso Wetland Park is South Africa’s first World Heritage Site (proclaimed in December 1999) in recognition of its superlative natural beauty and unique global value. Sodwana Bay is known as one of the “10 jewels” of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park and is only 45min drive from another of the iSimangaliso jewels – uMkhuze Game Reserve. One of South Africa’s oldest game parks (est. 1912), the 40,000ha uMkhuze is a spectacular park known for birding and game-viewing. Aside from an amazing landscape of acacia savannah, rivers, pans, and riverine forest, it is home to at least 420 bird species, the “Big 5” as well as rare species such as cheetah and wild dog. Lion were re-introduced to uMkhuze in December 2013.
